1948 cent "woodie"?

I don't believe this is environmental damage, but an improper alloy mix. Would I be correct?

I have a beautiful two cent piece that has a very similar wash to it. I always suspected somebody brushed something across it that changed the tone..... Looks pretty cool though!

 

Improper alloy mix causes the wood grain appearance on copper.

Here she is. Tried several photos. None of them really represent the piece well. There is no green on the piece. Maybe I can get a better shot with sunshine tomorrow.
