Uhhhh looks like a straight up 8 to me. I have heard that some people try to make a 1948 penny look like a copper 1943 but it doesn't look like that even happened to this coin lol if anything it's worn down or caught a little grease when it was struck.

If it was someone trying to turn an 8 into a 3 they took off the wrong side of the 8.

That's great that you fund bank rolls. It's important to save for the future ;)

No one has proved that it was not a 43bronze! There are SCIENTIFIC tests that can determine if the alloy is the same and imaging equipment to analyze the respective dates to match their "fingerprint/footprint".

The person you quoted is no longer a member of CoinTalk and... You are talking nonsense. A simple magnet can determine if it's a plated steel Cent or not.

Besides, there is absolutely no doubt that's a 1948. Unless you're blind!

Yes of course it is a 1948. What he is saying is that someone was beginning to alter it to try to make it look like a 1943.
I have seen a 1948 that was altered to look like a 1943.
If they were trying to alter this coin, it's the left side of the 8 that needs to be
scraped away to reveal a 3. I can sort of see the overlay of a 3 on the last photo.
Or it could be wear and an optical delusion.

Or the perp was dyslexic. Thread is almost a year old, but the coin looks like just wear and damage.

    That was intentional.

maybe we can find a member to write an algorhythm that deletes ALL just plain STUPID questions.

Many of you have wayyyy more patience than I do...

As long as there are new members joining CT we are going to see ignorance. Patience helps educate newcomers, even the ones who ask ludicrous things. It's our job to offer accurate, correcting information to those amenable towards learning, and yeah, it gets trite.

But I have had very few object to or refute the corrective info I have offered. I have been corrected also, that's why we're here...to learn and share our knowledge...Spark
