I just received this in the mail and would like some opinions on grade. Beautiful toning with tons of mint luster... the kind that cartwheels really nice.

As always, thanks in advance for your input.

Nice coin. The design is not the San Francisco Mint's finest work. The strike for both the half peso and one peso MacArthur commemoratives are almost entirely "mushy." Your example seems somewhat better than most.

@onecenter, you are correct. It's not San Francisco's best work by far. Many believe that apprentices ran the production of these. Even the best struck example have a mushy look to them. I enjoy the overall design of these and their little space in history as well.

Here is one of my graded half peso's. It' is NGC graded MS66.

Most likely the coin in the OP is an MS64 or MS65, pretty much impossible to tell for sure in a pic, but that's what most of them grade out. Very very difficult to get an MS66 grade on the Peso. It's tough on the 50 centavos coin, but much easier than the Peso.

Here's a pair of a couple of the best I've had:

Here's a bad pic of another great set I had, bought it out of a pawn shop in Maui, I think both coins graded MS65:

Beautiful example Mike @illini420! That 66+ Centavos is ridiculous!
