Im pulling my hair out trying to find the mintage of each of the San Francisco Pennies. I see there are 2 the Serif and Sans Serif. Looks like just under 100 mil produced. Do any of you know if one of these was produced more then the other or is it a 50/50 thing??? I have both in my collection so Im assuming its close but I'd like to know.
I have not ever seen any printed info for the production differences between this type of variety. Kinda the same for the 1928 large and small S mintmark, and quite a few other varieties.
Thank you. I now can stop trying to find out. I vaguely remember having a nickel with a mint mark style that was only 10% of that mints production that specific year. It was a large "S" I think. It was a nickel though.
Try and find out how many of these were struck! https://blog.goldeneaglecoin.com/2015-110th-oz-american-gold-eagle-narrow-reeds/ Quote - "The standard Wide Reed pattern has been seen as being the more common variety. But the overall mintages of the narrow variety is still not known." Closed quote
Some of the major varieties have had an estimated number assigned to them. Mostly due to their popularity and the hype that is built up around them. There are scarcer varieties that do not bring a premium because they are not as popular. And then there is the 1883 Nickel, the numbers for these are in the red book.
