    Kevel and tcore:

It's alway appropiate to give a person a single silver coin. mint set or proof set with the same date as his or her birth year. It's especially an endearing gift if it's a coin or set struck by the same country he/she was born in (Ireland, Poland, Canada, Britain, Mexico, U.S.A. or wharever)!

Hmmmm....Thank you. Now all I need is the best kinda to buy. What Mint? What Grade? It is all so confusing to me, I just don't want to be taken!

Well I would say any mint---when you go to the shop ask them if they have any slabbed 1947 (Half Dollar/cent/nickel/quarter/ etc what every you are wanting) in the MS grades...---the mintmark I would say doesn't really matter in this case.
Try to stay with either PCGS/NGC/ICG/ANACS----look for black spots--dark toning--fingerprints and such---if it has any of those I would pass.
If they don't have one I would tell them thanks and go to one of the dealers online---I think the grades I would look for are anywhere from MS63-MS65---prices should be under $150---also when looking at the coin ask them how much---even if it is marked---don't smile or anything just keep a blank face and what I do is just keep on looking at the coin while I ask---normaly they will come down alittle---if they don't I walk away---dealers have to make a proffit I know but most of the time they can come down alittle....

Good luck--if the shop doesn't work out let me know and I'll check out some more online dealers and send you some links...

    Hey Kelvel
Here are 2 that are on ebay right now---

    http://cgi.ebay.com/WALKING-LIBERTY...9QQihZ013QQcategoryZ41101QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Nice looking coin and it looks to be a good price---

This one is being sold by Heritage---a trusted firm and they have really nice coins---the price is right in line and maybe alittle cheaper than elsewhere...

If you decide to go with either one of the above coins the last one is the best IMHO---graded higher and just an all-around nice coin.

So, I want to cry....I went to purchase some coins today. 1) I found the sales men to be very rude to me, they were not interested in helping me as they knew I wasn't a collector. 2) I saw a few coins that were graded well, but the color looked really off, and they had black dots on it. They were suppose to be MS64 and MS65s, but the quality didn't look too nice. I then found a MS65, bright in color rated by PCGS, It was a D coin also, but it was 150. So, I came back to try to bid on the one I posted...and now it said I don't have the right rating to even be accepted to bid on it (yet I have an account). Now I'm really upset and I don't know what to do. I just wanted to have fun and learn about the coins, and give him something impressive, but now I feel like I'm being jipped of that experience....if it wasn't for this forum....I would be fed up. You guys are what keep me interested.....any advice? Where should I go now?

Well this is kindof normal I would say with some dealers--I'm sorry to say that they don't want "new people"---
The black dots where more than likely carbon spots and as time went on they might have gotten larger and larger---not a good idea---more than likley they were graded and then the spots came up.
From what it looks like you are going to need to go with Ebay or something from the US mint.
From what it sounds like you have decided to go with a Half Dollar---that is good IMO---I'll check some other places and see what I can find...

Here is one that will be auctioned off tonight---its free to sign up and a trusted company--
    http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2284&lot=1329&imagetype=j2
The thing with this company as with any good auction company is that they charge a buyers fee---so whatever you bid there will be a 12% added on to that---so if you want to go to $150 then I wouldn't bid over $135--that would make it before shipping something like $151.
Then there is this one also--it goes off on SUN.
    http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2285&lot=1676&imagetype=j2

Here are some more from another company---these are on sale right now so I would say the price is alright--sometimes they overprice their coins.

This one is from the Richmond Collection---that really doesn't mean much but it is kindof cool---the guy that put together the Richmond collection had a large collection and when he sold it the coins sold for millions....they put on the gradeing lable that the coins were from that collection...

And then there is this one---

Other than that I really don't know any more dealers that have any---all of the ones I've posted have been from trusted and well known dealers---if you decide to look for another type of coin let me know and I'll check again.

    Hope you find something!

So, I decided to go with this one:

    http://www.davidlawrence.com/invento...2F5227FFAC5C8C

I liked the color of it...and I kinda like the story behind the coins. Is this slabed? It doesn't look it....hmmmm...should I have considered that? lol

Can you help me locate a penny/nickel/dime/quarter uncirculated too? lol...you are the best, and I don't know where I would be without you all!

I think you have your heart set on a 1947 coin year set. I'm not sure it was mentioned but the U.S. Mint has a 3 coin silver 20th anniversary American Silver Eagle set out now. The price is $100.00 but a. it is the most beautiful set I've seen from the mint since i've been collecting, and b. I think you will find the Reverse Proof bullion coin the set contains will ensure that the set maintains it's value.

    A plug and my 2 bits :)
