I found this 1947 Canadian maple leaf and I believed it to be nickel because that's what I keep seeing but it sticks to a magnet so I believe it might be still only I can't find anything on. Anyone know anything about it? 20201217_012105.jpg 20201217_012056.jpg

Generally a nice coin . It looks like 50 cent.

Nickel itself is magnetic. The the reason US "nickel" coins don't stick to a magnet is because they're actually 75% copper. The Canadian 5-cent coins have a purer nickel content, so they do.

(*For the benefit of everyone else, that was a metal detecting reference.)

Nice. I will have to dig mine out and have a look at them. I like the older Canadians.

It would be unlikely that it is steel given that the switch back to 100% nickel was in 1946. As @lordmarcovan mention nickel is highly magnetic and is in fact how we tell a 1968 Silver coin from a nickel coin.

It isn't. Nickel is magnetic. Copper isn't, but it is the reason US "nickel" coins (which are actually 75% copper) don't stick to a magnet.
    There ya go.
