1946 steel penny

    Is there a documented steel penny???? I couldnt find anything online about one but that doesnt mean there isnt one known out there. No, I dont have one but am trying to find out.

    Yes. 1946. Im sorry. I know all bout 43 and the rare 44. Ive seen multiple people pop up here with various years stating they are steel but all end up being plated, fakes etc.

    Someone told me they had a 1946 steel penny. Quite frankly, I dont believe it. Thought Id check here since I cant find anything online about any 46 steelie.

    I've only heard of a few silver quarter planchets making it to 1967. Possible for a steel planchet to make it to 1946...perhaps. Likelihood is probably next to nil.

    Most likely plated.. We have many threads of people claiming they have cents from different years made of steel. All have turned out to be plated.

    I think I will put it to the magnet test. I'm surprised that I haven't yet. If that doesn't work I will bury it on Long Island.

    Nice find Paddy. Someones gonna be upset when they notice that thing isnt in their pocket anymore! Probably some kid took it from grandpas stash to go have fun.

    Nice. Last time I found one of those in the dirt it was in the early 50's out by our cistern.
