    They have upset the edges of the planchets since the 1790's. The Castaining machine, though primarily intended to apply a letter edge, also performed the function of providing the planchet with the thickened upset edge that differentiates a blank from a planchet. The high speed upsetting machine that we are more familiar with was developed by Franklin Peale in the 1830's after his return from examining the Mints of Europe.

  3. Thank You , I only watched a few videos to see it for myself . It doesn't delve that deep ,it just shows a different process than what we Use today at the Mints .
