i have looked at this coin for some time and visited Wexler's and other publications, nothing on finding a 1945 S but sure looks like the 1946S
Hi there, I am quite new to collecting and forum's, and with regards to coinhawks inverted S, it was only the other day I also looked at the Wexler's site which made me dig out this coin. I also have the same question really, would you guy's mind giving me your opinion on whether tjis is inverted or not?
Loopytoad, yours looks like the inverted S to me. You might want to wait on jallengomez or coop or someone else a little more experienced than myself, but unless that's a ding on the bottom, it looks correct.
I think there is a ding/scrape there. If you look upward from the bottom of the mm to the 1 o'clock direction, you can see some scrape that get the right extension of the 4 and the body of the 6 with flattening of the flow lines in between.
Oh yes, I can see it,crazy how the eye can sometimes miss what's staring you in the face..I think my eye's are playing tricks because I keep seeing what looks like at least one other 'S' mark to the right of the main mark.Thank you for your replies and apologies to coinhawk for jumping in on his forum.I still am learning how forums work.[emoji87]
I agree with Jay. This appears to be the inverted "S". The placement is correct and the mint mark is correct. Nice find.
