That is OK, @frankjg I don't need acknowledgment. I make mistakes as we all do. I learned and continue to learn from others. If you have a truly intellectually curious mind and truly seek knowledge, it is important to not only learn why you got it wrong but to educate others when you do. It's up to @israel f to decide for himself where he goes from here. He seems to want praise more than an opportunity to learn.
Yeah you don't want to hear the truth just Mute him. It's pretty sad. I have thought about it, but have never done it.
I think rascel is still upset that he didn't get the answer he wanted on a previous post. If everybody, including Mike Diamond felt it was PMD, then it's PMD. Now, on many of the more advanced questions, he is taking the opposite position of the people he doesn't like. Telling new people that they may have something (without supporting data), when the consensus of experienced members say they dont, is not only irresponsible, but could cost newbies money. Sounds to me that he is just hoping to catch one of the "little group of doubters" in a mistake. Consequently, members like the OP get caught up in his silly game, and end up taking flak for it. It's too bad, because rascal seems to be providing some good answers to basic newbie questions on other threads. Oh well, guess he knows all he wants to know
How much does a 1944 Steel Cent go for these days? I believe a set of one 1943 Bronze Cent and one 1944 Steel Cent that were both attributed by NGC was sold together for almost a million a few years ago. It would be nice to see more real examples of both error coins. Peace
It DOES happen from time to time, but it is rare, which you would expect, because legitimately rare coins are well RARE. Two I can think of was when a newbie came in asking if his 1992 cent was really a CAM and it was, and then there was the guy who had what he thought might be a 1977 D 40% silver half dollar. Everyone poo pooed it but early on I told him I thought it was possible. That thread ran for something like 15 pages over a several year run before it was finally submitted and it came back as real. It DOES happen.
I agree. There were a couple of new varieties also discovered that made headlines by a certain newbie. Her name escapes me at the moment. I just remembered! @Sheila Ruley !
I am still waiting to hear back if the 40% 50c proof planchet I acquired at a show is genuine. Paid $50 for it and could be worth a couple hundreds or more. Has the same stronger-rim, scanned the same as a struck 40% silver half, and the same pebbled surfaces. Mine is on top; a past sale on Heritage is below
