Ok thanks everyone for your help. Just wanted more professional help. Ive been a collector in the coin and paper money industry for 30 plus years and when I saw this I immediately felt like a kid in a candy shop. Your all right that it could be an altered 43 steel cent and will check with some local coin shops on sending it in for verification or just tossing it up as a cool find and conversation piece.

I don't believe the coin is legit.
But, if a magnet is attracted to a 1943
then it would also be attracted to a steel 1944.
I don't see how the magnet test would help, unless it was a copper 1944,
    plated and no attraction.

The two 4s don't line up properly.
I believe it to be fake.

Let's see a real sharp close-up of the date.

Still would like to see the edge if you get a chance, just one small part in focus should verify a plated coin. Jim
