    Marble,

I still think it might have been a "pocket piece". We had a discussion about these on the NGC forums a couple years ago, and I'm still looking for the thread. Just because one side is worn more than the other doesn't rule out that it is a pocket piece. With many of these coins, there would be no indication of hairlines from rubbing or sanding. It's sort of like how some canyon walls are worn down smoothly from wind and water erosion.

About the only way something like this could happen at the Mint was if BOTH dies were almost completely grease-filled, thus obscuring all of the devices. The problem with this theory is that the entire perimeter of the obverse of your coin, including the fields and Lincoln's bust are worn away evenly which is 99.9999999999999% unlikely that it could have occurred at the Mint.

Would a pocket piece be considered PMD? Yes! Everyone, here, has tried to give you good advice based on the cumulative decades and decades of experience, but you refuse to heed that advice. Thus, this thread has started to become (excuse the pun) a comedy of errors because you refuse to believe anyone. It's time to move on.

Funny how your other forum came up with exactly the same answer over there as we did here. If your "local shop" is really confirming these are mint errors, maybe you ought to investigate trying a different local shop.

If your "coin shop" is calling this an error, sell it to them and then find a real coin shop to deal with.

Maybe the shopowner is just trying to be polite to him.

I agree. Many dealers will do this because it's not worth upsetting someone.

    Why does this happen?

At what point in someone's day does this make sense?

"Huh...I have an object that I am unsure about. I desire to obtain more information about this item.

"Thankfully, I live in a day and age where we have a vast wealth of information, right at our fingertips. Nearly the entire total of human knowledge is conveniently indexed and categorized for me, accessible in mere seconds with a few keystrokes.

"Best of all, there are also large, organized groups of people, gathering with common interests, for the express purpose of sharing their body of knowledge and experience, often with the stated ancillary goal of educating others, like myself, who wish to benefit from their collective wisdom.

"Ah! Here, in fact, is just such a place now. I believe I will go ask them for the information I seek...

    ....

"I JUST CAME BACK TO MAKE SURE YOU ALL KNOW HOW STUPID AND MEAN YOU ARE, AND THAT I'M LEAVING! OH, AND YOU'RE WRONG!"
