There is a type 1 and 2 for this coin. I'm not sure if one brings a premium though. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces15858.html https://www.pcgs.com/news/pcgs-recognizes-1944s-50c-us-philippines-obverse
Thats pretty interesting, actually I think the coin is a mule it matches all the die facts,I can get better pictures tomorrow.
Hard to take pictures because of the toning but the hair is more pronounced and goes completely through the C.I see details on the Volcano and riffles along the bottom of it.The toning makes it really hard but some of the die crack along the rim is visible.
This is the only S/S I could find. 1944-S/S 50C Allen-15.01a (Regular Strike) U.S. Philippines - PCGS CoinFacts
They call it a 1944 S/S but picture a 1945 coin.??? https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1944-s-50c-allen-15-01a/516031
Not it. The chip is inside the top loop of the 'S'. Compare with web photo. This is photo of my coin.
It's there on Potty's. It's visible in his photos. Not quite as big as yours or the PCGS photo's, but still there. Die chips though are a result of die stage, so shouldn't be too important.
That is not how the whole mule thing works. in 1944 a die from the 1907-1927 era was used to strike coins. The 1907-1927 era die had a die chip as seen on the coins from that era. Some 1944 coins have the same die chip in the same location and the same size. This along with the other noted differences is how the mule is identified. A die chip does not regress only to progress again. The die chip along with the other markers has to be the same to be the mule.
I am not doubting what you are saying. When we have every other characteristic leaning towards the Mule. And Potty's has a die chip in the same viscinity and are. Wouldn't it be feasible that the die chip progressed to what they have pictured and noted?
I agree I still believe it's it the coin has the right hair details the volcano e.t.c they match with the other die. Also with the possibility of a new RPM for the date as well, pretty interesting coin.
