Looks like a clash to me or maybe a strike through?

not a clash, could be lamination error?

Made of the same metal the quarter's made of right???

 

Certainly "looks" like lamination. Can't tell anything from the reverse because of the dirt/damage?

 

I agree on that, hard to tell due to the dirt.

 

Not a clash with a us quarter, looks as medal has peeled off. So lamination and worn down smooth.

 

It looks like a crack to me.

well there is the "crack" to the left of the bust then starting from between the T and Y in liberty and all the way down is the same sort of line in an almost parallel fashion. In hand it doesnt seem to be a crack. Sorry about the reverse it is quite gross, but as far as i can tell shows no irregularity.

 

Any ideas on how to get the black stuff off of there? especially on the reverse

 

Sure that is grease? Almost looks like it has been burned. The reason I ask is there appears to be pitting. Perhaps this was in a fire and someone already tried to clean it.

 

Acetone maybe???
