I have a war nickel with what I can best describe as a shaft piercing Jefferson's nose and continuing into the mouth. It is raised and solid I have no idea. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1I-QmJLK4BVj9LwVDJyz3HWV7tOXB3PG0/view?usp=sharing Any ideas what this may be?
As far as errors go, it's fairly common. But it is still worth a bit more. Probably like 2 or 3 dollars.
Definitely not a die break. Looks more like a struck through. A little wide but that's okay. Also looks like the very bottom of itchas broken off. You can see that down by his chin.
Is there a way to send it to someone to get some better info? What exactly is a struck through? Very new to all this
It's all very informative for me, I appreciate all the info. In reading some info aren't struck through's usually indents in the coin? This is raised and very solid.
Extra piece of metal stuck to the planchet when it was struck. That will be raised but if you look at the neck area it's not raised but indented. Part of that extra piece broke off.
Better photos of the entire obverse and reverse, plus close ups of the area would be helpful. I'm not in either group of die break or strike through, but would love better pictures and maybe a few others, @paddyman98, @JCro57, @Fred Weinberg, opinions.
I thought I uploaded some links, guess not here are some, I hope https://drive.google.com/file/d/17EyYyFES3Se41ePn400eR-9YxmpbKmOI/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1j_cVLE6XIUjS3x_sV3JdsTChf0QSF_79/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cD0QlcSC_0Cy8FTEuiPF-QlF5iH9E1lS/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1If-FP8biNI6qea-Ct7Es6vc5jpfLmWgk/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IydusQuiMM7QiydHGflTkfCxi7PB6wwI/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KdvGBY1iz-8g0kZFv8iZakfnaBBAfeov/view?usp=sharing Let me know and I will get better ones if needed
The only two things I can think of is the coin was possibly subjected to heat OR it's possibly a lamination error that hasn't opened.
