How many of those coins come back from PCGS not at all what you thought it was?

On the wheat penny, why is there some “rainbow” coloring?

That would just be toning. Copper is a metal and it will tone various colors.

It's not silver. If a 1943 dime planchet was struck as a cent by mistake,
then it could be silver but it would be dime sized with incomplete rims and
    weigh 2.5.
Steel pennies are supposed to weigh 2.7 grams. 2.8 is not unusual.
It could have been plated over.
Of course I should have read the replies more thoroughly. I completely agree with Cutler in post #4. Your coin has been bronzed or plated with copper to make it look like a copper 1943. Common, damaged.

steel cents weigh 2.70 grams the coin is question is not a silver alloy if it were struck on dime stock it would look very different. This coin is almost for sure plated and a normal coin. There are other possibilities as the mint was striking coins for other countries in that time period. One example the KN133 1944 Belgium 2 francs was 2.75 grams and 19mm very similar to a US Cent of 1943 also made of zinc plated steel. My wag is a normal impaired cent.

I have a coin kinda the same but the color isn’t that color. 1943 penny weight 3 grams even. It does stick to a magnet though. I dunno. Pocket change

Welcome to CT. If it sticks to a magnet it's steel. Are you sure your scale is correct?

I highly encourage you to send it to PCGS. Please insure it for the full value that you believe it is worth. We all look forward to a full report upon its return.

    The education will be priceless . . . .

It's steel. Always start a new thread and show photos of both sides.

Does it weigh 3. 3.0 or 3.00? (Note these values are NOT the same and it relates to the precision of the scale.)

It's steel as mentioned which is why it sticks to a magnet.
As for the weight, you have to use a good quality digital scale
to get a more accurate weight, and I assume your scale is rounding up
    to 3 grams.

I have a 1943 Steel penny. That sticks to the magnet. But it does not weigh 2.5 grams it weighs 3.1 grams the same weight of a copper...

Steel cents should weigh around 2.7. If the scales are correct then it is a little on the heavy side. Most likely a slightly thick planchet.
