No thank you for the information, it is greatly appreciated. Well I do have one correction, to my earlier statement which is the one in the middle doesn't stick to a magnet, and I think it's a 1943.

I will keep the actual steel pennies in my wheat penny collection. Its worth more to me then to the market. LOL!

Can you think of any other way to verify the date on the middle penny. I have read that you are not to clean or do anything to the penny as this may devalue the coin, so I haven't done anything to it as to not damage it any further than placing it in a safe. I believe it states "1943" but I'm not 100% sure. Thank you again.

    I'm 99% sure the last number is a 5.

I have it as 1919. The nature of the last digit is clear, and there isn't enough space between the two 9's for anything but a 1, I don't think. I may be wrong about that; not enough time to fiddle with similar 19x9 coins to establish it for sure.

First, please don't break into a thread about copper 1943 Cents with a question about a Dime. It isn't going to make you many friends because it's considered impolite, and won't get the attention it deserves since folks who concentrate on Cents don't care much about Dimes.

I can't decide if the last digit is a 5 or 9. Could you post more images?

They're really not worth much unless they are at least 65. :D

It's a copper coated steel penny used in the film.

There's a scene where the penny moves upwards by itself (Swayze's ghost character moves it up). This is done by a magnet on the other side. It's copper coated for three reasons, 1) to resonate with the audience since steel pennies may not necessarily be known by some or most of the audience, 2) to not dissuade Demi Moore's character who would know that steel is magnetic, and 3) to actually pull off the actual levitation against the wall scene.

Now, if Moore's character knew about that the 1943 penny was composed of steel, then she'd think that Whoopi Goldberg's character is messing with her, but for the purposes of the film, that detail is ignored.

Thank you. I really didn't think it stated 1943, but i'm not sure what it states as the 3 digit but the last i though was maybe a 9. I was basing this hypothesis on the earlier forum question regarding the line of of the 3, 5, 9 on various wheat pennies. I don't have a clue at this point, and may just give it up and see if I can find a replacement. Since I still have more than a few wheat pennies to locate to complete my wheat penny collection.

That's the first time i have heard that remark, but i'm becoming a believe in the statement, and may have to move on to find a replacement for this coin.

I love it, you guys are teaching me alot, keep it coming.
