I found this 42 tucked way back in a display row at a local antique shop . The price was a little steep, I paid $35 but I think it was worth it.
It was worth it. It's full bands. It conceivably could go to MS67 off these pictures provided it's not messed with. It looks OK off these pictures. We need to see a closeup of the date. Or, I'd like to see one, if you could manage it.
Yes I agree...a better closeup would be nice. Overall though, it looks like you got a keeper. Good job.
If it were a Philly overdate, the 1 would be standing out like a sore thumb in this grade. Even in those photos. Not seeing it. It's the Denver overdate where you need a closer look to find the remnants of the 1 and the doubled 4. Still a nice Merc. Good pick. Rick L.
Thanks Eddie, Its confusing because in the pics that I'm posting now it appears to me to be the number 1 with serif alongside and vertical to the 2. Also in one of the pics there appears to be a big fat 9 to the right and upwards of the 2. Its like splitting hairs to me.
Gee, I'm not that good. I can see a big 1 when it's stuck under the 2, but that's about it, lol. Others are going to have to take it from here.
I see something under that deuce, but I couldn't tell you what it is. Whatever it is, it was on or in the die.
