1942 15 kopek - genuine or reengraved year?

    Got this recently as it was cheap. Low grade isn't a problem for me however authenticity is a different matter.

    Weight is at 2.72g.



    What are your thoughts on it?

    I am not knowledgeable about these, but looking at other examples of the 1942 15 Kopek, the date does look tooled and re-engraved, to me. Top and right hand side of the '2' look incorrect.

    2 looks off big time but I do not know these coins..

    Re-engraved. The shape of 2 is wrong.

    It looks weird, but I don't know anything about these. Is the 42 a key date, or something that would make it worth altering the date? What sort of price range are we talking for these, versus a common date example?

    1942 15 kopek is a key date of this type.

    A common 15 kopek in this condition may be worth about a dollar versus 100 - 200 dollars, if not 300+ dollars in XF condition. There is a big difference in pricing so it comes to no surprise if there are counterfeits or altered dates of this type.

    I would have to agree..the "2" just don't look right.
