Picked this up in a dealer's half price bin at the Houston Money Show last weekend. Almost didn't even check my Cherrypicker's Guide before salting it away.

Do you see the same variety I do?

I see an amorphous blob around the D and not the distinct lower left of the repunch depicted in the book.

Yeah, on higher magnification, it looks like the blob around the mintmark is there, but not the lower left edge. Dangit.

I've not looked at many nickels under high magnification. Is it normal for some of the letters in AMERICA to blend together (M to E, R to I), or is this a die break, or, option 3 I guess: are both things true?

Now you know why it was in the dealer's half price bin. Better luck next time thanks for sharing.

I mean, it was priced well for a 1941-D Jefferson in that condition. I just thought it might be a RPM.
