I came across this 1940s wheat penny and unlike all my other wheat pennies this one has a lot of lines through it it almost looks like the wood pennies I have but different at the same time is this common for this year? The We also looks messed up.
I think your coin had extreme environmental damage before it had a very harsh cleaning, relieving it of any numismatic value.
It's unfortunately suffers from circulation wear, environmental issues and it's been cleaned at one point years ago.
I agree with the above posters. The lines you are seeing are most likely from someone scrubbing the coin or it having been dragged across a rough surface.
Still, if you look past the environmental damage the details are not bad. Makes for a nice album filler.
Local coin shops, numerous web sites, and some book stores even have them. If you have a coin club in the area you may be able to get one from them.
