I was looking through a bag of wheat pennies and this coin looked interesting. The date has what appears to be a slanted "1" between the 9 and 4. What is this? PMD?
It looks like a Die chip or Die break in between the date here are example of the two different types I have die chip die break - aka BIE
I looked up "penny die chip in date" on Google Images and the sixth image was your 1950-D penny you posted here and on coincommunity.com. I thought that was funny
I am new here but posted a lot images of ddo, ddr and rpm on other forums I did not find that one I bought that from ebay from a user on Lincoln Cent Resource.. It was so big and cool...
I have the same die crack on reverse. But mine is between the words cent and united states. Planchet must have been rotated just a little from yours. Your the first person I've seen that has talked about this error. I can't find any info on this 1940 d penny error.
It looks like a chip to me between the 9 and 4. Similar to a BIE in LIBERTY where the space in between the letters gives way some.
