Looks like many years of circulation wear and tear.

At First looked a lot like 1940P-1DO-005, but that DDO has the extra thickness on the date and liberty. As mentioned this one has it in many places, so I would have to say I can't tell from the photos or its wear as the back also shows increase in thickness. Jim

Man, that's good when you can so quickly point to a particular variety. You know your cents Sir.

Thank you sir, but I have to be honest , I use coppercoins.com for verification as they have excellent photos and explanations of even minor ones. Jim

True enough but still, even realizing a variety that quickly is impressive.

That last one kinda looks like a die crack but still a lot of wear. 1940? Aside from educational purposes, what's the point? No offense meant.

The other thing I saw was doubling on the date. Especially the 9.

I have several 1936's that look similar so I hold them for the DDO possibilities. The 1940 though? Unless it can be called a new variety, I don't understand worrying about it (short of educational purposes).

It had a hard life for sure.Damage on back doesn't affct it of course, but it is noticeable. Jim
