1940 D Nickel area of MM

The mint mark area on this coin odd. Any ideas?

Are you talking about the field in the mint mark area?
Could be a small Lamination issue.

Are you speaking of an annealing/cooling problem?

I submitted these to NGC -

 

Lamination is a Planchet issue.

It could be in a small area or a large area of a Planchet.

 

I don't see anything unusual. It's about what you should expect to see on a heavily circulated coin from 80 years ago. ~ Chris

I'd have spent it. Yeah there may be something minor going on between the MM and the edge, but the coin is so heavily circulated, and whatever is going on is very minor.

 

So, you are saying the nickel and $5.50 will get me a Starbucks?

 

After looking at those coin. Cant you see why newbies and myself included ask stupid questions abouts bullet holes, missing #'s, letters and stuff. Don't you have a different 60d picture?
