    Someone really needs to explain to me how to identify a 1939 nickel with a reverse of 40 or 38, I'm not really having any luck finding info on it...

    That's a beauty. I went with 66. I didn't choose 67 due to the mark in the field on the reverse. I feel it is had no chance at FS though.

    It's too nice for 65, but it doesn't have full steps.
    I say if it's PCGS, MS-66.

    Reverse of 40
    Clearly defined start & end point on the left & right side of the stairs.
    Thick top step with clearly defined base at the columns.
