1939 and 1940s nickels toning/discoloration questions

    See attached nickels with what would you call the color issues and does it significantly lower the value of each coin?

    The 1939 is a metal detecting water find.
    The other possibly just dirt

    Since the face value of each coin is 5c, I don't think there would be a significant reduction in value.

    1939 is a metal detector find (as said by frank), someone cleaned the dirt off of it so it was left with that red color (Almost all dug nickels get that red color). Second one just looks to have picked up that dirt and grime and such from circulation.

    Unless the first one was '39d, which it's not, there is not much value to be reduced ;)
