Hey everyone. Trying to figure out this coin that was presented to me for an assessment. Does the area in concern look like damage and if so, why the MS66 grade? Doesn't appear to be on the obverse or rim?? Is this an error that the owner didn't want to have on the slab? Help appreciated, trying to learn here.... Feel free to zoom in on an editing program if need be. Thanks all.
@SensibleSal66 My color perception is bad, I did not see the circle till you asked...hard for me to see. That's why I don't like wildly toned coins
Not necessarily. You have to know that you can grade any coin for a fee. If the coin has a mint error or variety then you have to pay an extra fee for attribution. If you don't pay that fee it will not be listed on the label.
Looks like it might be a planchet flaw to me, but those photos don't have nearly enough detail to tell. (Especially the obverse shot -- looks like there might be something going on in the area corresponding to the circled reverse spot, but impossible to be sure.)
Not enough detail to see that area. In these photos it just looks rough and the first T in STATES looks broken. Also looks like an RPM D/D but again can’t tell.
