New to site, pleased to find it happy to be here...
I was wondering of anyone can share an opinion on this 1938 Lincoln. I am stumped
The grooves /rings appear symmetrical and even around the entire coin and does not look off center. It is only on the Obverse not the Reverse. I cannot find any other examples online or other resources. Is this a collar clash or something other. Thank you

This characteristic is commonly seen on the flat rim of proof coins. However, I have NEVER seen them this pronounced on any coin - EVER! You'll need to have someone check it for authenticity. What does it weigh? Give us a sharp photo of the edge.

It may have been removed from an old Lucky cent holder.

the weight is 3.1 grams & not magnetic. (with regards to the requested photo) are you asking for a closer view of the edge. I can supply a little closer with a Celestron 5 MP, or are you asking to have it stood up and photo the outside edge? BTW thanks for the feedback, I had never seen one like this as well especially on a business strike

Weight OK. Now I don't think edge will help as it is probably going to be squared off and sharp. @idhair had good suggestion but I do not think so as no damage evident. If the edge is concave his opinion will be the best.

I do not like the surface pattern in the lower photo. The upper photo looks like a genuine proof with the "dished" field. Interesting coin. I would still send it to either ICG or ANACS (faster service, lower cost & just as good for opinions of authenticity as the other two).

the edge is slightly Concave around the majority of the coin, but I do not see really any damage either. I responded back to idhair but miss spoke and said convex meant concave. I really appreciate the input. I may have it sent off with a couple other nifty issues

In that case, if it is really concave, it was possibly removed from a token. I say possibly because I have never (not a good reason) seen this pattern of rings on ANY lucky charm (I've only seen 200-300 so my opinion means nothing). There should be some "damage" (that's what the rings are?) on the rim. However, coins in these tokens SELDOM have the struck design from the aluminum casing perfectly centered on the coin!

    Let us know the results.

I agree after looking at a couple of photos from idhair, still may have it sent off for giggles. I really appreciate the insight

I have never seen this design on a Lucky holder as well. It was just a thought. Interesting coin.

I wonder what causes this look on some proofs?

By edge, they mean the side of the coin, not the rim (your photos show the rim well).

Dog, does the design go all the way around the coin or is there a stop at 12:00. I have seen some bezels do this on Kennedy Halves. The ones that I have seen always have a break point though.

    Jim,
No they go around the entire coin without any break, are evenly spaced and not wavy

Is the edge of the coin flat, wide, with sharp edges, and shiny?

Thanks. Live and learn. Now, has anyone ever seen a coin removed from a lucky token THAT DID NOT HAVE a concave edge?

I only bought it because it was a 1922-D. :)
