My son just inherited my uncle's coin collection. Can anyone tell me about this 1938 Jefferson Nickel? Looks like it has some kind of die error on the TR in trust. The bottom of the letters appear to be spread out l, like the die was worn? The coin is pretty rough, so I am not worried about value, just what may have caused it.

    Thanks!

Some of that appears to be the result of coin rolling machines. See the circular lines close to the rims?

as stated above, coin rolling machine damaged the letters....not an error.

Yup. Agree with @Inspector43. Your coin has been damaged, probably smooshed by a coin roller machine.

I would still keep it. The D and S mintage's were around 5 million.
