Did you clean it? It looks pretty clean for a coin that was found in the ground.

For me it doesn't matter.. If I think it is a key date I will check first then decide to clean my detected coins.

Just water and a soft bristle toothbrush. Only if I know the coins have no premium.

soak in Gingerale and pat dry. Learned this from an old collector.

Oh, don't use 7-up. Too much acid.

Coins that have been in the ground for a long time have dirt buried in the details that rinsing won't get entirely out so even a soft toothbrush will loosen that ground in dirt and scrape it around thus causing scratches. The ginger ale method eliminates that damage and works swell. I was a disbeliever too until I tried it.

BTW. After taking the coin out of the ginger ale rinse it well then pat dry. I have coins that I did this to years ago and they still look great with no telltale signs of ever being cleaned.

What is your reason for saying no?

I've been collecting coins for 55yrs and certainly would not recommend doing something that doesn't work or damages coins.

It does not matter.. Most of the coins are just face value.

Acetone will loosen organics and not hurt the coin. Xylene will work also.
