Could have been sitting face up in a cabinet for most of it's life. Who can really tell what that cent has been through.

I don't see a lamination which is usually characterized by a flake, or a peel.

The very first hole to plug in a Whitman cent folder displays the reverse of a wheat cent. In other words, the obverse of the cent is against the cardboard of the folder. I would bet you this cent's obverse has been face first in a Whitman type album becoming dark and toned over the years due to exposure to the cardboard.

In an end roll long term or album as previously stated.
