AU-58 cleaned and artificially toned to hide the effects of the cleaning. Look at the obverse behind Miss Liberty in the area of the Motto , look also between the suns rays. On the reverse look above the eagle. There are numerous fine scratches that indicate the cleaning. The toning is unnatural and designed to hide the scratches. I know others will disagree but What is there..is there Thanks, Bill
The areas you noted could be something other than scratches. But even if that's what they are, I'm not convinced that the color is artificial and designed to cover them up. Heck, I would bet that in-hand, the toning doesn't even look the same as in the images, especially the darkest areas. Bottom line, we don't even know what the color really looks like at this point.
I agree with your AU-58 , It's almost impossable to grade a piece from a picture , this one is tricky because of the toning . Some of the toning looks like wear , but if anyone can grade a coin from a picture it's Doug so I'm probably wrong . Plus Walkers are extra hard to tell beginning wear from slight weakness of strike . rzage:hatch::hammer:
Man I hate when you think your one of the 1st few posters and find out it's 2 pages already , LOL rzage
I appreciate all the comments. I have been studying this site and decided to try out some of the things I have read. Here is the same coin with the lights covered with paper towels and the lens stopped way down. Thanks CoinTalk for the info and the insights. Cheers
I'll agree that it's been cleaned but I think it's just toned on it's own, naturally. As far as the grade, y'all have all had fairly good takes in that area. I guess I will go with the AU58 from above. just my 2 cents
