lettow: Thank you! I was hoping you would have that info for us. I was unclear myself if there was existing printed inventory (face and backs only - no seals/SNs) sitting in vaults that went back through to add the brown seals and SNs as well as the black HAWAII overprints -or- if entire print runs of notes were cranked out adding the additional HAWAII impressions during the overall print run. I assumed it was all done at the same time since they had to recall all the existing circulating money in Hawaii and redistribute huge amounts of new currency, so much that there wouldn't have been enough unfinished notes sitting around in vaults waiting for use and instead it required this entirely new issuance to be printed to meet the demand/emergency purpose. slamster: Here is a tiny bit more information you can read from Wikipedia regarding Hawaii overprint notes
The best general resource for Hawaii and North Africa notes is an article written by Peter Huntoon (and others) in 2008 for Paper Money magazine, the magazine of the Society of Paper Money Collectors.
Many thanks for the reference material. :thumb: Located it on the site: Paper Money May/June 2008 Society of Paper Money Collectors.
I did alright compared to Provident Metal's prices. They are selling these in average circulated condition for $32.95, mine was marked $30 and I got it for $25.
Pretty good price for the condition of a note such as this. Any time I see Hawaii notes I pick them up.
