Besides the upper margin being skinnier than the lower margin, what is it that makes you believe it has been trimmed @mpcusa ?
Another point i would like to make, if the OP sends it in to be graded he risks Not only the lower gem grade as i mentioned before but also comments From the TPG on back, which will suggest problems to potential buyers Further affecting value, i am not making this stuff up ! the top boarder has waves in it similar but not as bad as the old fractional Currency in which those were all hand cut by scissors.
Iam all for the A/U grade, from a buyers perspective you get a great price And a very nice note but in this case if it truly is GEM because of the Boarder you will receive a less attractive grade, which will turn off allot Of buyers.
The bill is not trimmed I assure you. The waves you are seeing is because it’s not sitting completely flat on the table making the top appear not straight . I’m still seeing a 64 grade notebook looks perfect to my eye. Losing a point because of the margins.
I said it before, send it in, have it graded as you really have nothing to lose. Post the results on CT. What's the problem?
This. Instead of us speculating on what grade your note may be, simply send it in and let the experts do their thing.
The waves that i am talking about are in the margin itself, not that the note is Not setting flat on the table, so you still think its a 64 ? here,s what i would Do, there many skilled currency graders on here, post your note and start a Poll, i am sue you will find very few if any assign a 64 grade, also the other $1,000 i posted is a 64, yours on the other hand is not, just trying To real in your expectations.
Here are some reasons why I felt 50's was a good grade. MPCUSA and Hawaii's notes are crisp and clean with darker ink. I would be happy to get a $1000 graded in the 50's. The OP thought I had just kidnapped his puppy with that grade. It's not a 64.
New to this thread...looked at the initial pics, and it definitely looks MS or at worst AU58 or so....but not sure if it will qualify for Gem (65) or Superb Gem Quality (67). It's tougher -- I think -- to judge paper from pics than coins. I know that because my nice-looking 45 Gold Certificate was thought to be 10-20 numbers HIGHER when I posted it here. You won't see the vets here miss by that amount on a coin. The front margins look a bit off -- not horrible, just not top-notch. The back margins look nice.
Well, i have hundreds of graded notes, and have been in this arena for 25 plus years, so whats your experience ? More over grading is very subjective, but there are certain things that you look for and the first thing i look for, when i dont have a note in hand is the margin, that tells you really fast what the grade is could possibly be if it is uncirculated.
“Well, i have hundreds of graded notes, and have been in this arena for 25 plus years, so whats your experience ?” @mpcusa where does your 25 years experience put this ? It’s an uncirculated note. Put a number on this based on margins.
Margins on that $2 bill look pretty good, Steve....but the bill doesn't look that "white" for a bill from the 1970's. I'm gonna go PMG 64.
