There is better lighting on this one, but I have to wonder if the direct light is washing out what I saw as gray before and is now whiter. It's certainly worth having graded, I guess we'll find out when it comes back. I am at 55-58.
I just guess at this point but I notice all of the plate number are below 10 (obverse and reverse). Is this because Of the low amount that was printed in 1934??
How so ?? if it is in mint condition as the OP states, having it graded could hurt The value, as per my examples above would come in at a undesirable number Causing a decrease in value and a less desirable note after all.
Huh ? The only way that happens is if he assigns it a higher number than it actually grades....AND...someone buys it from him thinking it's the same grade. Since we are talking about $5,000 here give-or-take, he's not selling it to some rube but someone presumably who knows the market. I don't think the market for ungraded $1,000 bills is stronger than graded ones. If anything, he'll be UNDERBID by anybody interested in buying it.
I would like to see a photo with side lighting @burningrock. Sometimes flat photos don’t tell the whole story.
The grading fees are low in relation to the value. Some have stuff graded and crack it out if they don't like the grade the service gives it. I don't feel that's being honest but some do it.
Missing the point ?? As i have already said lf this is GEM note, it wouldnt make the 64 tier, so what are we talking about then a 63 ? , who wants a 63, i have hundreds of graded Notes and would never consider less then a 64 in a gem grade, now if were talking an A/U grade that would be something different entirely, again you Want to increase value !
First, it MAY grade in the 60's though I agree it doesn't appear as nice as HCC's $1,000 bill. But if it is a PMG 58, it is worth "X" amount of $$$. But if he never gets it graded, it's possible he'll be offered EF-type money for it. I never believe getting something graded is a money-loser UNLESS you have some Homer Simpson-type willing to grossly overpay for the bill because he/she overgrades it by 10 numbers.
MPC, I get where you are coming from never wanting less than a Gem 64 bill....Ideally, I would too (Gem 65)....but lots of people are budget-conscious and as I have posted in the NEW ACQUISITIONS thread, there are lots of decent notes below that. The PMG 58 level has very nice-looking stuff, cheaper than stuff in the 60's but sometimes looking much nicer at 1st glance.
A note can grade 55-58 without folds. As for the side lighting that Tampa Steve mentioned, the OP shows more flaws than the overhead lighting.
How does a cheat trim ? I presume they're not using fine scissors, right ? And how much do they trim off...must be in micrometers or fractions of a millimeter, right ?
