Has a nice lacquer finish to it, if you like that sort of thing. Perhaps ask the seller if he can plug it to wear on a bracelet or put on a key ring.

When I see a coin like this, I always flip down to look at the coin, and then read the story. Remember, you are buying the coin, not the story.

In this case, the coin is a harshly polished AU specimen. Run away.

I think it's an AU details coin. I agree that it has been polished, but not harshly.

I wonder...would a quick, gentle dip help make the luster a little more natural?

The luster has been removed. The entire surface layer of metal has been buffed off (this top layer is where the luster is created). Dipping it would do nothing for this coin.

For more information on luster, how its created, and the effects that cleaning has on it, see my book linked in my signature below.

Hi, your signature block does not show; perhaps it is my browser. In any event, could you post a link here?

@mac266 that book is a great book, and is another area where I failed myself here, the chapter on luster was one of the most educational for me. I should have applied the knowledge here.

Here's the amazon link...well worth the money.

    Polished, but it's been said.

New to posting on threads. I usually just read & try to decode the jargon, see what I don't know and such. So, my opinion likely is worth less than the asking price but I'll give it anyway.
You had doubts, obviously! Otherwise, you wouldn't have asked for opinions. Pay attention to those "nudges" from your brain that say "somethings off here" and back away. There will be other opportunities with a much clearer focus and you can save your $ till those moments arrive.
