He sent pics to several of the leading authorities asking their opinions. He got nowhere and was basically ignored. So he turned to me.
Based on your pic it kinda looks like an RPM. Problem is, there are no known or listed RPMs or other mint varieties for the '32 Washington. That said, he doesn't really post here anymore because he has taken a hiatus from coins, but the person who started this thread, Speedy, believed he had found evidence to the contrary. Problem was Speedy was a young kid, this all happened several years ago, and as often happens a lot of people are not willing to pay attention to young kids or what they say. Speedy believed he had found evidence of several different mint mark varieties for the '32-S Washington. He sent pics to several of the leading authorities asking their opinions. He got nowhere and was basically ignored. So he turned to me. Based on the pictures I was inclined to agree with him, that he had found evidence of several different mint mark varieties for the '32-S. So, over time, Speedy wrote a pretty good article on the subject. I then helped him contact the editors of the various coin magazines and he tried to get his article published. But without exception, they all refused to publish it. You see, the books we have all say that the '32-S was struck using only 1 die. Therefore there could not be any mint mark varieties. And since Speedy was a young kid, he was ignored. The subject has never gone anywhere since then. I figure one of these days one of the experts will run across one of these coins with the mm variety, write up a story get it published and it will be a big deal. I hope they do, because I still have the original article that Speedy wrote on the subject and all of his pictures from years ago. That should go over well ;) Anyway, as to your coin, what I would do is send it in to CONECA, have them identify, attribute, and confirm it either is or is not a RPM. If it is, then you have the first.
