Still looking to improve my grading skills, here is a 1931 S Lincoln cent in my collection. I am sitting on the fence between XF40 and XF45. Am I in the right neighborhood? Any way this could grade into AU? I'm still working on my lighting for photos... Thanks for any and all input y'all!

Im thinking more like VF30 in my opinion. Although it could be VF details due to the scratch across the obverse.

I was wondering about the scratch and what it would do to the grading...

    that's why it dropped, might have been a 35-not quite a 40

352sdeer Collecting Lincoln cents for 50 years!

    XF details “scratched” Obverse
Deduct 30% to 60% for scratch.
Worth about $50 with scratch raw.
Nice coin! XF 45 without the scratch.
    Sincerely
    Reed.

I agree with the XF details, scratched. Too much detail in the wheat ears to be VF. Nice color too.
