You were saying something about a funky 3? As you can tell, I'm sure, this is a comparison to how the date and mint mark should look...that's a mint-state '30-D.

OK, now onto those "nicks." They're not "raised," they're indented. There goes the chipped-die theory. They aren't easy to photograph, either. But, here are hopefully some better pics. They should blow-up clearer, too, as they were taken on a "super-large" setting. Hard to hold your hand steady when you're holding a 10X up against the lens, lol. But maybe you can make that area out better, now.

Here's the problem, as I see it, with the coin-hit theory. Those must have been some pretty fussy coins. I mean, look at the marks. Do they really look that random to you? Look at the orientation. Look at the rest of the coin, both sides. These are pennies, too, making those marks, if they're indeed coin-hits. Those marks weren't made by any pennies. At least, not any I've ever met.

Just still don't know what to make of this, overall.
OK, back to the fun. I feel like I was in a straight-jacket all day. RLM, this first set of pics is just for you. :D Just still don't know what to make of this, overall. Hell, think I'll sleep on it. Thanks. :) EDIT: BTW, I'm not ruling out post-mint damage on the nicks. Only I don't think it would be random. Just doesn't look that way to me.
