Poor cent has had a rough life, but that hasn't hidden it's scars from the mint police. Came across this during my wheat roll searching this afternoon (trying to fill up a Whitman album.) Apparently Laminations aren't what people pre-search these rolls for...
Hmm, that's a good question. Since the planchet has an error, I would think it was from it's formation. Perhaps a pre-mint error? Although I don't doubt the delamination occurred post-mint.
The San Francisco Mint really was not good at properly mixing and annealing coinage metal in the 1920s. I have numerous examples. Lots of woodies from this era.
Looks like a large S also. All be it smooshed out which makes it look even larger. Nice Lamination, planchet error coin.
As mentioned above, the 20's were a bad decade for improperly mixed alloys and here is an example of one of mine. Apparently the bad planchets were sent to Denver and San Francisco so the Philiadelphia mint could look good.
Hah, now that you say that I can't see anything BUT a kite there. A half a kite, I suppose. Need to add a picture of a key hanging from the bottom of it.
