I recently found a 1928 wheat penny silver colored. The penny looks like a steel 43' but is not magnetic or weighs as much. I am assuming it is aluminum. Is this penny a fake or did they mint any pennies that year other than copper? It does not have a alignment issues so I do not believe it was a coin from a different planchet. Thank you.
Welcome to the forum...... In most every case these silver or aluminum colored cents are plated. Often to adorn a curio set or a piece of jewelry. They are even done in high school chemistry classes. Once the novelty wears off, they find their way back into circulation. They are quite common really but fun to have. I have two that I pulled from pocket change.
pictures would help. A lot. there are multitude of answers such as an old silver plated from a third party or even a science experiment which is very common.
Zinc plated in a school chem experiment , you can google how to make gold , silver pennys (sic). Enlarged . I can see copper tones. Welcome Jim
