May I suggest that you start by learning how the minting process works, beginning with die production. Then, when you come back here, we will gladly accept your apology.

Well it only has 3 legs and the lines are so sharp you could cut cheese with it so I don't know how a perfect Y was shaped with no over lapping or exta pieces or lines from any other character besides a Y if you take a 4 show me how to get a perfect one like this? I just done believe it damaged goods if I could make it so perfect with no flaws I know it's a bad pic I just put it on my phone and put the coin back in my safe tonight I'll make a blown up pic crisp and clean and let All decide thank you

Are you using talk to text?
You may want to infuse some punctuation commands.

You received some responses from people who are very knowledgeable on the minting and die making processes. Although you're new and have no way of knowing, these people have demonstrated their expertise on numerous occasions in this forum.

One aspect of a good problem solver is knowing when to trust the info from others, particularly if you aren’t familiar with the subject matter. I concur with the others that the last digit suffered a hit that caused the soft copper to become deformed and appear to be something different. Based on my experience, I can see NO POSSIBLE way for your coin to be a mint error.

I recommend you use your stubbornness to learn as much as possible about the minting process and not use it to chase windmills because you disagree with the responses you’ve received. Read and study the sites people have referenced earlier, and as you learn, you’ll come to the same conclusion.

    Best of luck

I just wanted to thank everyone and didn't mean it want to offend anyone. I will take my penny off the table and I do like all of your opinions I just had too many to answer to at once and the website you gave me is very interesting so I bid a fair well and thank you again for everything maybe I'll stop being so stubborn and listen before I leap. But I will keep watching on here and with everyone and all the years and knollage together I know you are right and mean well. I was being defensive and that's not why we are all on here is to help. Have a Great day and Nice Holiday weekend....

For the interests in seeing it a little better. If not soon tomorrow I'll get it done thank you!

Cut to the chase Bobby, you are convinced on the Y , we are on it's a damaged date digit, so send it to the pros, PCGS will tell you one way or the other. It will cost about $100 total. It is similar that if you went to pick up a new car, and the rear axle tires pointed outward. You would not believe it was a factory joke or mistake, but damage. That's all we can do. Jim

You know I have been visiting this website for maybe 2 months, I am
not sure. I do tell you I learned quickly that a good 100% of the times you don’t have anything of worth, just excitement, so I have lowered my expectations and continue searching for what I find interesting and if I post for advise I am already anticipating the obvious. Many times you can make a guess but that’s it. There are many experienced fellows here. To give you an example, I wanted this coin attached to be an error of some sort, but it turned out it just took a hit and although no one will know for sure what happened it is
    what it is,just damage.

There has actually been several other of these posted lately where the date or other text on the coin had takin a hit and it appears to look like something else besides a number or letter. It is actually a quite common damage.

Hi Bobby V, my name is Carla and I am kinda new here too. These replys are the main reason I stayed watching from a distance... Sometimes people with a little experience get an elitest behavior or mentality, And yes I caught the misspelling too! These forums I believe were formed to help people learn, and a place to socialize in a common interest, not belittle and shame newbies. For one thing even us novices know that a 1927 penny is not worth just a penny! Melt value alone, so when a reply like that comes thru the reply speaks for its self. As for pictures some of us dont have the means to afford cameras that are so perfect and clear. People tear me up, Call me Crazy, but I have put my heart into studying these screwed up coins for 9 years and tho not an expert I am not a blind novice either. Why not be like a real informed teacher and not make people afraid to ask questions? I have an unusual coin that I actually saw on one of the forums and they tear the poor girl apart, said it was road rash, If Road rash then why do I have the exact same coin? And mine came brand new when my grandson was born? The girl probably went and spent that real treasure! I have even had so called real experts treat me like that. Kindness and respect are not hard and will be listened to faster than rudeness. Anyway I will get off my soap box. I have a gorgeous 1927D penny in perfect shape and I was here researching when I ran across this post.

The person you responded to has not been on CoinTalk since March 2018 o_O

If you have a coin with a question then start a new thread. Pictures are always needed for us to give you an honest attribution. We are not here to be dishonest but to state the truth.. If you don't like the truth then that's not good.

    Have a nice day.
