Die cracks are pretty common on peace dollars, but can be helpful for figuring out the VAM for the coin. If you're feeling up to it you can try checking here to see what you can find. :)

yeah i know die cracks don't add to the value of the coin but still they are neat to find and since this is the first coin with two die cracks on it i have found makes it even better

Just click on the line that says "23S sort by breaks" and match it up.
This should be pretty easy. you can then go to the VAM specified and match other die markers. Try it you may have fun.

I'm not seeing anything that would fit my coin on the tails side which these two die cracks are at, nothing on the head side of the coin

the top die crack runs through the INTED in United then drops down through the RIBSU in PLURIBUS and then goes through the head of the eagle and out the lower beak part and touches the N in UNUM

the lower die crack runs from the tip of the tailfeathers all the way to the lower olive branch

this die for this coin was not in the best of shape

Nice die cracks which you know are common. I have a complete set without any die cracks, very hard to put together.

They may be common but they make for good conversation. Thank you for posting the coin.

This one caught my attention... I was moving some coins from flips and 3-ring binder holders into snaptites and taking some USB microscope pictures. As I looked at "UNITED STATES" on the reverse of this one, I thought, that's an interesting font they used, almost looks like a spike through the "S". Researching die cracks, found they're prevalent in the 23-S and maybe even Peace dollars in general. Although I couldn't be sure, I was ready to chalk up the line across the whole word "STATES" as a scratch but now I'll call it a die crack. Looked at a bunch of pictures on-line but didn't see the die gouge that looks like a spike through the "S".

What did the mint do on these, keep stamping them out until the die breaks or eventually someone decides they look defective and puts in a new die?
