I think you meant $13 which is about the melt price of a peace dollar atm. :)

What happened to your usual bid of half face value? No 50 cents? :)

Smelt value; the value it has in a smelter...

Don't sell it, @Joy Matherne. Take joy in it (no pun intended). Like we say around the stables, never look a gift horse in the mouth. :)

It's silver content is worth a tad over $13, but in this condition, I don't think a dealer would pay very much for it. So, I'm inclined to think that you should throw it on a New York beach somewhere so Mr. P. can hunt for it.;)

Unfortunately it's damaged so it would be worth melt value. That's about $12-14.

Someone got some new diagonal cutter and tried it out on the poor silver dollar. Worth? Melt value or keep as a nice gift from your thoughtful son. Make up a story to tell people on how it got damaged and then have some fun with it. "An old sailor was so used to biting his coins to tell if they were real, he repeatedly bit this coin not realizing silver is harder than gold." LOL

Yes, it's really a shame that someone tested pliers/wire cutters on the coin.
    It looks at least AU.

Melt value, like everyone said- $13/$14.
