    Well, that would not be down the right bunny trail. There is something actually quite special and rare about this one. Look carefully and there are some hints in the devices and lettering as well as coloring - a bit hard to see on this.

    Any chance this is a nickel planchet?

    Devices, lettering, coloring. I'll take a stab and guess that it is a rare unpublished satin strike.

    Hus, you are dead on. It is the nickel pattern. I photoed it as I thought it was lost some years ago when my wife left, taking many good pieces with her. I also have the 1924 nickel bit. It certainly is not as sharply struck as the 1924 matte specimen. Need to weigh it as there may be 5.0 and 5.7 gm. pieces.
