Well, he may not actually have bought this coin. When they started doing the show, he wasn't really allowed to buy anything. (On TV, all staged.) The coin could be owned by someone who is just looking for some free exposure/publicity before an auction. And loaned it to the show to do a cool segment. This clown who came in didn't win it in a poker game. And Rick may or may not own it now, and if he did buy it, he's not paying $80,000 which is the current retail price.
I wonder if it was this one that the NGC guy was referencing? https://coins.ha.com/itm/proof-peac...pr61-ngc/a/1216-4211.s?hdnJumpToLot=1&x=0&y=0
The coin looked incredible. Fantastic details. They said the one that sold was a little better. The one in the link is the same grade and it says $120,000 was offered as of May 2017. Do you think this is the TV coin?
The Toning looks close. But they are two completely different styles of photo. The label says it most likely is, and looks like Rick got a new slab for it, maybe had it conserved. The two marks on the reverse 4'oclock are barely seen in the Heritage photos, but they are there.
I did notice some black marks on the rim, unusual for a proof coin. Unless it was out of the OGP during it's journey before it was finally captured and entombed. Did they even protect proof coins that way, almost 100 years ago, or were they just sent in a paper envelope?
