I am glad to post on the forum and hello to all. So I am in Ireland.... Peace Dollars come up in house clearances from time to time. The old story tends to be that a relative emigrated to America and sent this coin back in the 1930s, so usually it has sat in a shoebox or cupboard for the past 90 years. I tend to buy peace dollars when I see them for 60 or 70 USD. My question is, I looked through my collection recently and I noticed one coin had a beautiful darkened or blackened toning. It has multi coloured tones at the edges at angles. What do you think, is this worth more than 70 bucks? Not many people here collect coins and those that do typically only know anything about British coins so I can't get any local opinion. I don't think the darkness of the coin comes across in image format ! Thanks guys
Well... There are those that pay a premium for toned coins. I am not one of them. Myself, I don't see any added value from the dark surfaces.
