Hi, I have been going through my parent's Lincoln Cent collection, and ran across this coin. Mom had it labeled as a 1922 P, (which is weird, because her and Dad, knew their Lincoln's). Anyway, do you think, this is a true 1922 'No D', Strong Reverse, (Die type 2). If so, what would you grade it at? What is it worth? Thank you, Mike
Looks genuine. Also looks like a well worn strong strike. The only problem is the coin has some damage. If sent in for grading I think it would come back as genuine, details.
Thank you all for your information! I will send the coin in for grading. I will report back when the slab arrives.
Second 2 in the date is stronger than the first. WE is weak while TRUST is very clear. The L in LIBERTY looks moved from taking a hit, but I'm sure it was originally almost touching the rim. Along with the well struck reverse with no signs of die wear on the O in ONE... It is safe to say it is infact a die pair 2 strong reverse. As far as grade, I'm not positive it straight grades due to the damage, but I wouldn't be surprised if this coin is graded VF. People forget that the 22 no D isn't graded like a normal wheat cent. Where a normal wheat cent might grade AG3, a 22 no D of the same condition could grade F12 (that's just an example). Die wear doesn't get graded like circulation wear is all I'm saying.
Hard to say. Unfortunately it will depend on what the TPG puts on the lable. There are plenty of low grade 22No D coins out there that straight graded. Seems people, in my opinion, would rather have a VG8 than a VF Details when it comes to this coin. Also in my opinion, I think a details lable paired with this coin will hurt it more than leaving it raw, as the damage isnt significant, also in my opinion. Unfortunately, people refuse to learn how to tell the difference between a 22 strong vs a 22 weak vs a 22 altered mintmark. They want the TPG to tell them it's ok to buy.
Hi All, I received my NGC grading report for this coin...... VF 20 BN Evan8 - good job on your grading for this one! Can you tell me what the BN designation stands for, (brown?)
Did the report call it a 1922-D? I'm with @Collecting Nut on this one, I'm seeing a worn strong reverse and no D nowhere.
