No, it's not a Matte Finish Proof, although the Mint did modify the 1922 LOW RELIEF Proof Hubs to develop the Low Relief Design for regular circulation. According to Roger Burdette's research, there were about 200,000 made, and ALL were supposedly released into circulation. I had never seen a Peace Dollar with these kinds of Features until I came across this one on Ebay, and I won it at a very low price about 3 years ago; I've also had that extremely well-struck 1921 about the same amount of time, but that one cost me a few bills.

You will note that the LOW RELIEF TRIAL STRIKE is not shown in PCGS CoinFacts nor in NGC Coin Explorer nor is it noted on VAMWORLD as a Variety.

The 1921 has finning at about K-8 on the Obverse, and I believe that this is one of the strongest strikes that was yielded by the Mint's Medal Press before they realized that the dies were being destroyed by the force needed to fully bring up the design; most of the subsequent coins struck after this short run usually exhibit flatness in the central parts of the Portrait and Wing Feathers.

My future objective is to get both of these to John Baumgart @ VSS, then to Leroy Van Allen, and finally Roger Burdette for their expertise in verifying my analysis and for possible variety attribution assignment.

The day it first broadcast I posted on the NGC site that dealers would start getting call from people wanting to sell their rare 1922 peace dollars that were just like the one that sold on PS for $80K. Seems Like I was right. Surprised I haven't heard of more cases of it though.

The Pawn Stars show is nothing but acting. I have a super rare coin and I'm seriously going to bring it to a crappy Las Vegas pawn shop. The same as I'm going to bring a documented Les Paul guitar in and sell it for 90k. For next week's episode there probably going to have some guy bring in the Mona Lisa and try to sell it. Let me guess Rick is going to say nobody wants it and that it will sit on his shelf for 10 years. He when then offer the guy 100k for it.
