I know that ICG does not charge for putting lamination errors, clips, off-centers, struck-thrus, etc into their slab. You pay the normal grading fee: Pretty sure $12 (check their web site). If you catch them at a coin show its only $10 and you save the postage to send it in. You would need to pay for a VAM ($7). If you do not plan on selling the thing - that's by far the cheapest and faster alternative. ICG and ANACS coins do not bring the same price as NGC or PCGS.

Sad personal story: I sent twenty Top-100 Morgan's that I cherrypicked in the past to an online auction company and had them graded by ANACS and attributed. Coins like 1900-O/CC, 82-O/S you get the picture. These coins cost me virtually nothing! They graded XF to MS-62 and most were slider Uncs. Had about $700 in them as they cost around $35 @!!! So far one sold for $55 and the rest averaged $29! That's some loss for me and some happy collectors. Sale took five months from the time I gave them the coins too. So much for ANACS and that auction company.

Anyway, good lesson here. Collectors of VAMS prefer to find them on their own...I'll still cherry them for cheap. Collectors prefer high grades as that's where the rarity comes in. Also, I suspect some of the heat is off the VAM bloom. Finally, the book with prices of VAMS is pure BS for the most part. Several R-5 coins with values of $$$ in AU that sell for $28 with one bidder ought to prove my point! The good news is I'll cash my $250 check tomorrow and look for more of this junk. The fun/thrill is in the search. Happy collecting.
